An evening of songs mapping Devon’s diverse cultural landscapes at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth.

From the displacements of the past to those of today, this original vocal performance will reroute you to the sites of different cultural groups making urban and rural refuges in Devon. Written, composed and performed by refugees and asylum seekers of Plymouth with students of Dartington College of Arts, directed by Misha Myers with financial support from Dartington Plus.

A polyphony of different languages and melodies takes the listener on a walk through different times and places in Devon. Through original songs perceptions of the sites of Plymouth are expressed by current inhabitants of diverse cultural groups. The experiences of a group of artists taking refuge at Dartington in the 1940’s and their contribution to the cultural life of the region is also woven throughout the journey.

The song map is composed as a guide for an actual walk and has been recorded onto an audio CD with route directions by Plymouth Music Zone to be distributed to libraries, schools and museums.
