South West Sound is the annual music convention for the South West of England. Each year hundreds of music practitioners - from all areas of musical activity, across all genres and of all ages – gather at South West Sound to explore and debate new initiatives and practices; to discuss current issues in music enterprise and education; to learn new, or refine existing, skills and to forge relationships and partnerships.
The event includes seminars, presentations and workshops, intensive courses, one-to-one business and career development sessions, break out slots and networking dinners plus an extensive live music programme showcasing emerging and established artists.
South West Sound is relevant for those working in all genres and spheres of music, including musicians, educators, promoters, composers, producers, engineers, artist managers, record & publishing companies, music groups and organisations, students and all those who want to forge a career in the world of music.
Guest speakers at South West Sound 2007 include Billy Bragg; Tom Bewick of Creative & Cultural Skills Council; Korda Marshall, CEO of Warner Music; Kathryn Deane of Sound Sense; Don Jenkins of Universal Digital; Caroline Elleray of BMG Publishing; and the Music Manifesto’s Marc Jaffrey.
The event focuses on the link between music education and industry at entry, intermediate and advanced levels. Each day explores a particular area of interest, with entry and intermediate level provision place in Bristol and advanced at Dartington.
