An advanced brass group, based at Dartington College of Arts, run by Catherine Carter-Tyler, for players approaching grade 8 standard or over. The group, which meets weekly during term-times plays a wide range of pieces from the renaissance to the present day.
Members are encouraged to write and arrange music to perform and the group as a whole are available to perform DCA and KEVICC student’s work. One of the important functions of the group is to provide a medium, which is useful to both composers and performers – enabling students the opportunity to experiment within a safe and open-minded musical space.
Performance opportunities are both frequent and full of variety. Ranging from ‘Tower Music’at Dartington Hall, teaming up with tuned percussion and dancers at The Northcott Theatre and providing the brass section for the South West Camerata.
Catherine Carter-Tyler is currently a brass tutor at DCA, KEVICC and SaMS,Totnes. Formerly Director of Music at King’s College, Madrid and Head of Brass and Woodwind at Blundell’s School, Tiverton. Catherine has also worked for Welsh National Opera and at The Moscow Conservertoire. She keen to see brass students reach their full potential as both performers and composers and take brass music to a whole new dimension!
