05/04/2004

On the 23 April South West musicians will be able to receive expert advice at the Music Industry Day, Dartington Plus Music Symposium. With a mix of inspiring speakers, workshops and live performances, this day will focus upon how the industry works and how to establish a solid business base.

Top professionals from the industry will be speaking and hosting sessions at this unique event. Former Chairman of Virgin Records and now Managing Director of Adventures in Music, Paul Conroy will be the key speaker on the day. Paul was the music executive behind the worldwide success of the Spice Girls and whose record label was responsible for the 2003 Christmas No. 1 ‘Mad World’. Other guest speakers include music journalist and radio presenter Steve Lamacq, music industry lawyer Helen Searle, whose clients include Jamiroquai and Moby, and Phil Nelson, manager of acts as diverse as The Levellers and Aqualung.

The day will enable musicians, bands, promoters, managers, producers, record companies, music education projects workers, community music providers and others to gain invaluable knowledge and to have great networking opportunities. Live music sessions, free and open to all, will round off the event at Dartington Hall, Devon.

As part of the South West Music Symposium ‘ Future Opportunities, New Challenges’ Dartington Plus is jointly presenting the Music Industry Day with the Centre for Creative Enterprise & Participation. The Centres’ Creative Enterprise Fellow for Music, and Music Industry Day organiser Adrian Bossey said; “We at CCEP are really looking forward to hosting this exciting event at Dartington, which is a first for the region. It will be an ideal opportunity for delegates to obtain cutting edge information on the music industry, contribute towards future ideas for the development of music in the South West and hear some of the diverse music from the region”.
