south west sound

In April 2004, Dartington Plus hosted the first ever South West Music Symposium - ‘Future Opportunities, New Challenges’. This event was a great success, with delegates clearly identifying the need for an annual Symposium. Dartington Plus will repeat and enlarge the event in April 2005, under the new name ‘South West Sound’.

Symposium element of 2005 event

Each day will include keynote speakers and break out groups throughout the day focusing on the successes, opportunities and challenges for music in the South West region. Each day, 9:30am 5pm, will be devoted to a different area of music as follows:

Live element of 2005 event

The live programme has been expanded, in partnership with South West based music organisations holding ‘showcase events’ in local venues. To date we have interest from Plymouth Musicians Co-operative, South West Gig Guide and Crediton Rural Arts & Music Project, but if your organisation would like to get involved, please contact Dartington Plus.

Workshop element of 2005 event

There is a parallel strand of workshops and master classes for practitioners, which will provide added value and professional development.

Stay up to date

If you would like to keep up to date with South West Sound 2005 developments please fill in the free updates form in the REGISTER section of this site, and tick the Regional Development Agency tickbox.

Possible input from Partner organisations

We are looking for regional and/or national partner organisations, to showcase artists, give presentations, deliver workshops and programme half-day segments of the Symposium. As an example, we will be working with the South West Music Industry Forum, to present the morning discussion panel for day 5, with members explaining the aims and functions of the forum to delegates and taking feedback from the floor.
