The Plymouth Music Industry Group today announced Plymouth's biggest ever music festival, which will feature around 140 acts in pubs, clubs, concert halls and street stages around the city between 21 and 30th October.
The week is designed to raise the profile of Plymouth's growing music industry and also create an annual showcase, combining local talent with top quality visitors.
The highlights of Plymouth Music Week are performances by:
- Jazz star Jaime Cullum (26th October) and rock legend Nils Lofgren (22nd October) at Plymouth Pavilions.
- Mercury Music Prize nominee Seth Lakeman at The Barbican Theatre (26th Oct, Barbican Theatre).
- Blade - UK's leading exponent of Hip Hop (21st October, The Cooperage) and Kubb (29th October, The Cooperage) - who feature former members of South West favourites, Root Juice and Reef.
- Plymouth born singer songwriter Jaime Lawson who has toured with David Gray and sold out the Barbican Theatre earlier this year (28th October, Barbican Theatre)
- A “Sounds of the Suburbs” programme taking bands such as Eleven Lives Left, Full Speed Alone and Sketch to venues in Plymouth suburbs. Full programme to be announced.
- A Music Industry Seminar on Saturday 29th October, aimed at helping local musicians, promoters and agents develop their craft. Includes 3 advice panels with top industry experts including London agents.
- Young People's Music Workshops - in Woolwell, Crownhill and Plymstock. Plus extensive programmes at Music Zone in Devonport and The Soundhouse in Estover.
- A staged Street Music programme in Plymouth City Centre (dates to be announced).
A wide range of concerts - classical, folk and jazz - will also be taking place during Plymouth Music Week including:
- The Ten Tors Orchestra, performing Haydn's Nelson Mass (Saturday 22nd October, St Andrew's Church) and
- The internationally renowned Brodsky String Quartet performing at the Sherwell Centre for Plymouth Chamber Music Trust (Sherwell Centre, Saturday 29th October).

The Plymouth Music Industry Group (PMIG) was formed last Autumn following a meeting called by Plymouth City Council and Dartington Plus, the regional music development agency. PMIG is seeking to develop the music industry in Plymouth as part of Plymouth's Creative Industries strategy.
