Musicians are being offered free expert advice at Music Industry seminars in locations across the South West during July. Expert speakers will enable up and coming musicians to gain specialist information on how the industry works at events in Gloucester, Newquay and Bradford on Avon.
Adrian Bossey, former professional band manager to acts including Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, Chumbawumba, Drugstore, Kinesis, My Life Story and The Senseless Things will host each seminar. Adrian is currently music industry specialist at the Centre for Creative Enterprise & Participation, Dartington College of Arts. Each day will also feature a guest speaker currently working within the industry who will talk about their specialist area and ways of building a career in music. Speakers include Dave Newton from Shifty Disco Records, Patrick Cunningham from Exeter Phoenix and Mel Brown, press agent to Muse, The Cooper Temple Clause and Dogs Die in Hot Cars.
These events are a direct result of the highly successful South West Music Symposium held by Dartington Plus in April 2004 and have been organised in response to an urgent need to spread specialist music industry knowledge throughout the region. Each seminar is being run by the Centre for Creative Enterprise & Participation, Dartington Plus and a local partner organisation.
Organiser Adrian Bossey said, “The Music Industry in the UK is the market leader within Europe and the third largest worldwide. We’ve got some amazingly talented musicians in the South West and these events will help even more of them find a successful route into the industry”.
These are free events, but places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
