Lili Powell, Steevie Daw, Anna Bosher and Amy Rogers of the Totnes rock band The **** Lovers have been very busy in recent months, impressing the likes of Muse mentor Dennis Smith.
Last year the band recorded their track ‘Richard (walked right past)’ at the RockOn Music Workshop recording studio as part of the BandiT project, a music education & development project funded by Dartington Plus. It was good enough to entice Dennis to the CD launch gig in December to see The **** Lovers and the other RockOn bands play at Totnes Civic Hall.
All at RockOn were hoping for feedback about the gig from Dennis and his team at Sawmills Studio, and The **** Lovers seem to have struck the right chord, as the KEVICC four-piece were asked to played a showcase gig to Dennis, producer Paul Reeve and Liam Smith, general manager of Dangerous Records, on Saturday 28th February.
Lili Powell, lead vocalist from the band, says:
“Getting ready for the gig was really hard work. We faced a lot of challenges about stage work and trying to get loads of energy into songs we seemed to have gone through a thousand times, then getting in front of the Sawmills people and still making it sound fresh. I wasn’t nervous when we were playing but afterwards, just before we met Dennis, Paul and Liam, it was a bit scary as we didn’t know how they’d react”.
Well they didn’t need to worry too much because since the gig, Adrian Bossey from Dartington Plus has been working in partnership with the major music industry magazine Music Week and the girls have signed an agreement to allow their track ‘Richard (walked right past)’ to be included on a special cover-mount CD. Music Week has a circulation of over 10,500 across Europe and the UK, including all the major labels, promoters and managers.
What’s more Dennis Smith has invited the girls to join the ranks of bands such as Oasis, Supergrass, Muse and The Stone Roses, by recording in his Cornish music studio, Sawmill Studios. The dates are set and The **** Lovers are on their way to great things!
If you want to catch The **** Lovers before they hit the big time, you can see them perform at the South West Sound music event on 25th April (tickets available from the Ariel Centre). South West Sound runs from 25th to 30th April at Dartington Hall and the Ariel Centre in Totnes and features over 50 national & regional bands and artists including The Waterboys, Seth Lakeman and Stephensons Rocket.
