how to apply

Nomination procedure

The nomination procedure to recruit participants is a crucial part of the proceedings.

Nominators are drawn from regional, national and international performing arts workers. They include established artists, directors and managers working across a wide range of different contexts in dance, music and other disciplines and across culture, race, age and style.

Each nominator is invited to offer the directors the names of two artists. These artists are then invited to apply. The participants are chosen from the applications received. m&de is ENTIRELY FREE OF CHARGE to successful applicants. This model has proved to be highly successful in that it:

  • Encourages an equality in the range of applications across a wide cross section of the arts world
  • Broadens the participation while also ensuring the quality of the work. The nominators can support applications made by artists unknown to the directors.
  • Increases the public profile of the lab. The lab's visibility becomes enhanced as nominators are selected through National Dance and Music Agencies, dance companies, interdisciplinary arts centres and festival organisations such as Dance Umbrella.

Becoming a nominator

Artists who have participated in m&de are automatically invited to become nominators for forthcoming labs. Additionally, if you are an artist, or arts administrator, directly involved in dance, music, theatre, visual or digital arts, with a wide knowledge of key practitioners in these fields and you would like to be considered as a nominator, please contact l.riley@dartingtonarts.org.uk Nominators may, if they wish, nominate themselves.
